Activities - Farmingville, NY
Long Island is famous for its endless beaches, breathtaking sunsets, vineyards and scenic drives, and each year it attracts visitors from all over the world. Whatever your interests, you're sure to find activities that suit your taste in and around Farmingville. The best way to experience everything Farmingville has to offer is to try some of the local pastimes. From celebrity spotting to sledding, produce picking and fishing, there are plenty of things to do to give you a sense of the local culture and atmosphere.
Sledding is a favorite winter activity in Farmingville, and there are lots of places to do it nearby so get your plastic saucer and head to an official or "unofficial" sledding site like Bald Hill near Ocean Avenue, Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn, Dead Man's Hill on Corona Avenue in North Valley Stream, Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale and Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. For the more adventurous there's Ocean Rock in Bohemia which offers rock-climbing with indoor mountains and a pool to scuba-dive in. Situated a few blocks from MacArthur Airport, it's the first rock gym on Long Island, featuring several walls with artificial crevasses and overhangs.
Produce picking is another fun for the whole family activity and many local farms have U-Pick programs, allowing guests to pick their own pumpkins, strawberries, cherries and apples among other fresh fruits and vegetables (from April through October). If you are interested in catching your own seafood, you might want to try clamming. The beaches of Fire Island or Shelter Island offer plenty of opportunities; the method the locals use is: wade out into the bay and bury your feet into the sand until your toes wrap around a smooth, rock-like shell. The next part is easy: reach in, pull it out and pry it open to see what you've got.
During the summer months the Hamptons' beaches, restaurants and shopping malls, particularly in East Hampton and Amagansett, are the best places to spot a celebrity. Paul McCartney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Martha Stewart and Jerry Seinfeld are just few of numerous famous Hamptons homeowners. A few shopping outlets can be found in the vicinity of Farmingville, including Prime Outlets in Bellport, Smithhaven Mall in Lake Grove and Westfield South Shore Mall in Bayshore.
