Theater and arts - Farmingville, NY
The Brookhaven Amphitheatre is an arts and cultural center and an outdoor concert venue, featuring famous performers, movies and entertainment. It has nearly 7000 seats, and a capacity including lawn seating of over 15,000. The amphitheater was built in the late 1980s, replacing a simpler stage constructed in the early 1980s on the location of the former Bald Hill Ski Bowl. Throughout the years the venue has hosted famous musical acts such as Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Blondie, James Brown, B. B. King, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and the 2002 Metal Edge Rockfest. The theater hosts family-friendly movie nights every Wednesday in the months of July and August. All shows are "rain or shine" and will not be canceled due to inclement weather. There is a concession on premises offering hot and cold foods, beverages and snacks.
Island 16 Cinema in nearby Holtsville boasts its own bar, restaurant and food court. It has four directors halls that feature reserved seating for all performances in the comfort of leather seats with more leg room. The outdoor seating area offers plenty of tables and chairs, where you can sit and wait for your movie while enjoying some snacks. The Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts operates as a not for profit organization under the leadership of a volunteer board of directors. It opened its doors on May 23, 1923 as probably the largest and most magnificent theater on Long Island. It was called Ward and Glynne's theater back then and was described as "palatial" and "magnificent in its interior decorations and appointments." The Patchogue Theatre is a full-time mixed-use venue, offering a variety of events including live performances, films, educational presentations, commercial productions, community forums, and other appropriate events. |
